Day 209 – 1.25.10 French Camp Historic District, Natchez Trace Parkway

The Frenchman’s Camp was founded in the early 1800s by Louis LeFleur when he opened a tavern and an inn for westward travelers.

Day 199 – 1.15.10 Natchez National Historic Park, Natchez Mississippi

Natchez National Historic Park preserves a piece of antebellum life and the height of the “cotton kingdom”. The park is centered on the Melrose home and plantation of the estate of John McMurran.

Before the Civil War more than half of US millionaires lived in Natchez. The elegant mansions that still exist throughout Natchez remind us of plantation prosperity as well as its horrible consequences.
