I’ve seen God as abstract most of my life, a distant, unloving tyrant who only wants to keep my wildness under control. Then ten years ago I wanted something more, a truly spiritual encounter with God, to know him for who he really is and have the relationship I saw in others; a relationship of mutual love and trust (no easy task for an untrusting heart). Although the journey to move Jesus from my head to my heart has taken years it’s only been in the past two years that he has begun to do more than scratch the surface.
What did Jesus have with his disciples, what do people like Joyce Meyer or John Eldredge have with Jesus that goes beyond the ordinary?
… to walk side by side in true friendship with a love beyond understanding; to be full of peace even when things look bad. What can I do to grow and know God better, deeper? Keep listening, trust when I don’t want to, learn to apply more of his word to my life.
Lord, continue to help me to know You and Your love and thank you for the lessons in trust. It is hard but you always see me through. Help me to recognize your presence throughout the day.
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” Jesus; John 14:27 (NLT)
